This is Mt. Desolation, a side project of Keane’s Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quinn.
The thing I like about side projects, they give musicians a chance to go outside what is expected of them by changing their name. What I don’t like… they rarely give us more, which is awful when you end up liking the side project enough to want more. Like Tired Pony, they are calling this an alt-country project. I’m thinking I need to understand alt-country better because I don’t hear it, the country, I mean. When I think of alt-country I think, Ryan Adams. Maybe, he is just straight country? This will be a good project when finals are over. I welcome your input!
Meaningful and timely this is State of our Affairs, from the self titled debut album, Mt. Desolation. It’s a beautiful melody that weighs heavy like clouds about to burst into tears, but somehow how remains hopeful in the chorus as it plods upwards.
