I’ve been sitting on this one for a while now, mainly because I forgot about it… Anyhow this L.A. band really have quite a unique sound. You want to say they sound like so and so but then 24.67 seconds later you wanna say they sound like someone else. Which really keeps you listening because it gives you this feeling of what’s gonna happen.
It starts off by creating a scene for you where you’re walking through thick brush where you can’t see any more than 2 feet in front of you so all you do is follow this sound you here in the distance. About half way through the song really begins to percolate and as the pace builds and builds it morphs into a rather lovely shuffle.
Lazy Sunday pick: My Own True Love by the Decemberists from the album, Picaresque.
So much for me posting music from the festival. Current job didn’t allow me to catch any shows so far. Today’s pick is within theme: The Decemberists played the fest last night at Portland’s Pioneer Square, as one of the weekend headliners. Tonight it will be The National playing the Square. With a day off, finally, I may check into some venues tonight.
This is Scissor Runner from the self titled album Jenny and Johnny. Jenny is Jenny Lewis, maybe better known as Rilo Kiley and Johnathan is Johnathan Rice, whom I’ve long been a fan of.
The two of them together create a completely different sound than you might be used to hearing from them individually. This song is a quick upbeat pop song that will most likely make both of them a little more famous.
Lazy Sunday Pick: Other Lives, from Stillwater, Oklahoma, singing Don’t Let Them, off their album Other Lives.
I haven’t listened to this in a while. The thing about it, I can never listen to this record just once. It’s definitely Sunday nice. Jesse Tabish’s lead vocals are a lovely melodic moody way to start your day.
Sorry for my absence of late. I’m working on a job that leaves me no time for this. It’s only for 2 more weeks and then daily music posts will return! In the meantime, I’ll post as much as I can over this holiday weekend.
